Leah Remini Might Sue the Church of Scientology for Trying to Cancel Her Show

Leah Remini is no stranger to clashing with the Church of Scientology. As a former Scientologist herself, she’s devoted much of her career to exposing the church’s alleged crimes, even starting her own show to do so. Now, Leah Remini may sue the Church of Scientology for canceling her Emmy-winning docuseries, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. After three successful seasons, there’s no word on the show’s future — and Remini believes that the Church of Scientology is to blame.

A source for Us Weekly claimed that Remini has been meeting with lawyers to discuss potential legal action against the Church of Scientology. Prompted by the fact that “there’s been no announcement about another season” for Remini’s show, the actor has been exploring her options, the source says. “She’s met with lawyers, as she’s considering taking legal action,” the insider said. “She alleges she’s been spied on and followed by people working on behalf of the church.”

Obviously, Remini is concerned for the future of her show, but the church’s alleged surveillance is at least equally troubling. According to this source, Remini believes the church to have “stablished a satellite location less than a mile away from the production offices in Van Nuys [L.A.] in 2017.” Presumably, this would be to get a closer look at what Remini has in development — and potentially stop it.

Karin Pouw, a spokeswoman from the Church of Scientology, denied these claims, telling Us Weekly that the church’s location in Van Nuys preceded Remini’s production company by several months. “In Remini’s mind this is some kind of conspiracy against her,” Pouw said.. “Remini’s publicity stunt is as stupid now as it was then, just like all of her other conspiracy theories.”

Obviously, Remini and the church do not have a friendly relationship. Whether Remini has sufficient evidence of the Church of Scientology’s actions to file a lawsuit, we’ll have to wait and see.
