Last Sunday, all three of our Varsity programs hopped across the Hudson River to the Garden State for the Head of the Passaic Regatta (HOPR). The team brought a combined 7 Eights, 4 Fours, and a Double to the race. Crews were focused and executed their races with what Queens Program Manager Bre Fitzimmons described as, “Some of the best strokes yet this year.”

Not every race went off without a hitch, however. Tragedy struck when an errant log damaged the skeg and rudder on the Manhattan Boys JV 8+ as they rowed up to the starting line. Left unable to compete, they held their heads high resolute in their preparation for the Head of the Schuylkill at the end of the month.

Brooklyn athletes got to celebrate their first varsity race and first sculling race. The celebrations didn’t end there. Flavia deLuccas, Brooklyn’s Head Coach, earned a gold medal with the Passaic River Rowing Association in the Mixed Masters 8+ category. All told, it was a successful day of racing full of lessons that our athletes will take into the rest of the fall season and winter training.
