The brother of one-time, Gambino Family boss, John Gotti, has passed away while serving a 25-year federal sentence for racketeering. 81-year old Peter Gotti, passed away at the Federal Medical Center in Butner, North Carolina, according to an article published in the Associated Press (@ap).
The feds said Peter took over the family’s business after John died of cancer, while serving a “life” prison sentence in 2002. Peter Gotti was arrested on racketeering charges along with a bunch of other charges for being the new boss of a crime family. Peter was convicted on those charges and sentenced to 25-years in prison in 2003. Gotti had already served more than 17-years of that 25-year sentence before he died. According to the AP, Gotti had been trying to get an early release. Gotti said he was in bad health, had rejected the “gangster” life, and the 17-years he’d already served, was his grounds for a “Compassionate Release.” A former confidant of John Gotti’s, said Peter had been sick for awhile. He was suffering from thyroid problems, and was completely blind in one eye.
