The Witcher broke the streaming service's record for most viewers during a first season launch, beating out other popular Netflix series, including Stranger Things and Bojack Horseman.

The news comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, which also reported that the series was streamed by at least 76 million user households in the first four weeks after its premiere. However, Netflix has changed what constitutes a "view." Currently, it only requires that a member watch a program for 2 minutes for it to be counted as a "view," where, previously, 70% of the program had to be watched for it to count.

Even if some Netflix members aren't watching the entire series, The Witcher has quickly developed a loyal fanbase. There has been a massive reprinting of The Witcher book series as fans of the show are now picking up copies of the books.

Season 2 of The Witcher is expected to go into production soon and is set to release sometime in 2021. The season will feature eight episodes.

The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 1 is now available on Netflix. Season 2 is currently in development.
