The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) focuses not only on venturing the outer space to find out-of-this-world discoveries but also developing devices or other technologies that could help fight the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic.

Just recently, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory created the new wearable 3D-printed pendant that may save humanity from coronavirus is called Pulse, an open-source 3D-printed pendant. It uses a proximity sensor and vibrates if your hand approaches. When his hands are about to touch his face by vibrating, the device warns the person--vibrations become stronger when hands are getting close to your face.

"The objective of PULSE is to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus, which can be transmitted if an individual touches an infected surface with their hand and then touches either their eyes, nose, or mouth," said NASA.

"This concept is a response to how often hand-face contact occurs throughout the day, a subconscious behavior that can be overlooked and challenging to correct," added the space agency.

New NASA necklace detects person with coronavirus by hand vibration

According to NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory's (JPL) report, the wearer of Pulse can avoid touching the body orifice  such as mouth, eyes, and nose when the necklace starts to vibrate. NASA developed Pulse along with the health officials' aiming to promote social distancing, encouraging people to wash hands frequently and wear a face mask in public.

CNET stated that the guidelines set down by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) can be used by the people to protect themselves from the coronavirus infection. The guidelines include avoiding touching face, wearing a mask, disinfecting surfaces, and washing hands frequently.

The space agency said that Pulse can be reproduced by anyone since it is designed to be simple and affordable. Other big tech companies also develop different wearables to help reduce further spread of the virus. This includes Samsung, Google, and Apple. Handwashing timers were added on Samsung, and Google watches, while Apple announced different updates at WWDC 2020, including face masks for Memoji to encourage healthy habits and handwashing time for the Apple Watch.
