Let’s be real: the start of the spring semester can be really rough. You have to deal with new classes, new classmates, and new experiences while trying not to freeze in the ridiculous winter weather. If you’re trying to find a cure for the spring semester blues we have just the trick: binge-watching as many nostalgic movies on Netflix as possible. To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of throwback movies on Netflix that we loved as kids and still cherish now (don’t judge).
1. High School Musical 3: Senior Year

That’s right: the only way this list can start is with the High School Musical franchise, which you might have missed if you were living under a rock. The third film, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, tackles the pressures of graduating from high school and moving to college as Troy, Gabriella, and the rest of the crew deal with saying goodbye to East High. This film is arguably the best one of the three, and if it doesn’t make you cry (Troy and Gabriella are just really cute together, okay), then it’ll at least remind you of the time when we all thought that senior year was the end of our lives.
2. Santa Buddies

I know what you’re about to say and yes, Santa Buddies is on this list. But who can say no to really cute talking puppies in Santa hats (here’s a clue: not me). The film is about a group of golden retriever pups called The Buddies (you might have seen them in Space Buddies, Snow Buddies, Spooky Buddies, or Treasure Buddies) who have to travel to the North Pole and save Christmas. The whole thing is really just a mess of puppies making cheesy holiday jokes and getting into trouble, and what’s more to life than holiday cheer and cute puppy faces?
3. A Cinderella Story

It seems like every year a new Cinderella Story is released and I’m reminded over and over again just how old I am. The best way to get a start on watching this franchise is to go back to the days when Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray owned our TV screens and our hearts. In A Cinderella Story, Duff stars as Sam, a downtrodden teen who begins an email relationship (you read that right) with Austin Ames, the most popular guy in school. The two share a romantic dance, Sam drops her phone, and chaos ensues. The film is charming and reflects what was best about the 2000’s – movies that spoof fairy tales.
4. Sydney White

Imma be real: Amanda Bynes was and still is one of my childhood icons. Not many people have heard of Sydney White, but I can remember the day I walked into my local Blockbuster (sigh) and rented this very film. The movie stars the Amanda Bynes as Sydney White, a confident, self-assured freshman in college who’s only wish is to join the sorority that her mother was in. After a series of disasters, Sydney is disbarred from the sorority and forced to find refuge in the guys at The Vortex, a group of nerds, geeks, and outcasts. This film is a modern retelling of Snow White but the real message of the film is to be yourself.
5. Baby Mama

Baby Mama is a true gem: it’s a film that not only stars two of the coolest people on the planet, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, but also is ridiculously hilarious. In the film, Fey plays Kate, a woman who is successful in her career and is now determined to have a child of her own. She hires Angie (Poehler) to be her surrogate, even though they are polar opposites and have absolutely nothing in common. Kate tries to turn Angie into a considerate responsible adult while Angie wants Kate to loosen up and have more fun. Overall, Fey and Poehler will make you die laughing and if that’s not enough I don’t know what is.
