The largest association of independent nuclear pharmacies in the U.S. has filed a lawsuit accusing Jubilant DraxImage, a big supplier of radiology medicines, with a range of anticompetitive practices that have resulted in dramatically higher prices that have allegedly hurt patient care.
At issue are a series of actions that Jubilant has taken over the past few years and that also prompted the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to open an investigation last year. The moves included buying rival medicines that were then withheld from customers, boosting prices on two key drugs, and requiring pharmacies to purchase bundles of its products, the lawsuit stated.
The “anti-competitive conduct involved abusing its position as sole supplier in the U.S. of two critical radiopharmaceutical” medicines, according to the lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in Mobile, Ala., by UPPI, a trade association that represents dozens of independent and institutional nuclear pharmacies. The lawsuit was also filed by Ionsouth, which is an independent pharmacy.
