WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department on Monday is continuing its efforts to locate the second suspect wanted in connection to a police chase that led to a manhunt in the Forest Hills area Saturday night.

Authorities say police received a tip around 7 p.m. Saturday that 22-year-old Greer Hayes Old, who was a suspect in a shooting earlier in the week, was staying at the Travel Inn on Market Street.

As officers arrived, they saw Old and the second suspect leaving the motel and a chase ensued, ending in the area of Empie Park when the two men exited their car and fled on foot.

At some point during the foot chase, shots were exchanged between an officer and the suspects, according to officials. No injuries were reported. Police say Greer is believed to be the one who fired at officers.

Police established a perimeter from the Forest Hills neighborhood to Wrightsville Avenue and set up a mobile command unit in the parking lot of nearby O2 Fitness while searching for the men.

K-9 units helped police locate Old, and officers arrested him about an hour later within the police perimeter.

Old was charged with several offenses including assault on a government official with the intent to kill, flee to elude, firearm by felon and possession of a stolen firearm. He was booked in jail under a $500,000 bond.

According to a news release from the WPD Monday afternoon, authorities have broadened their search area to both New Hanover and Brunswick counties in an effort to identify and locate the other suspect.

He isn't believed to be an imminent threat to the public but they consider him possibly armed and dangerous.
