Funds Raised For Researching Mucopolysaccharidosis and Other Rare Diseases

Xconomy.com has just released that funds have been raised for a variety of companies investigating therapies for rare conditions.

Unfortunately, novel therapies and inventions cost million of dollars to develop. Thankfully, there are people out there investing in this type of research.

Immusoft

Mucopolysaccharidosis or MPS, is caused by a buildup of unnecessary materials within the body’s cells. It can result in a malfunctioning respiratory, nervous, or cardiac system in addition to affecting patients’ joints.

Immusoft has just announced an increase of revenue of 20 million dollars and they’ve established that they will use some of these new funds to continue developing a new drug candidate for this condition.

Immusoft is based in Seattle, Washington. The company focuses on programing patients’ B cells to produce their own disease-fighting, therapeutic proteins.

B cells are a type of white blood cell that produces antibodies. If these cells were able to produce proteins to specifically fight the patients condition, patients would no longer need to have these proteins injected.

Bardy Diagnostics

Bardy Diagnostics is working to develop a Carnation Ambulatory Monitor (CAM). This device will be able to detect heart arrhythmia simply by being placed over an individual’s chest. Data from this device will be recorded and entered into a program which can analyze electrocardiograms. This company has just announced they’ve raised 6 million dollars to go toward this research.

VYRTY

VYRTY is working on a project that would enable patients to download their own health records and store them on a device the size of a credit card. This data would be accessible with any electronic health records system. Their hope is that this invention would allow patients to more easily share their health history with new medical providers.

This type of investigation has been done before however the previous system didn’t include the hardware component that VYRTY’s does.

The company has announced that they’ve raised over 3 million dollars toward this investigation thanks to 14 investors.

Hopefully we will see further developments on these three investigations soon thanks to these new investments!
