Writers: Are you getting yourself out there?

All authors, new and experienced, know that in order for people to buy their work, they need to get their name, their brand out there. But where do you begin?

You may want a website or blog (or both). I have both, but to be honest, I work on my blogs more than my websites.

Whether or not an author uses Amazon for publishing, use amazon central by creating an author page. This allows the author to connect their books to their author page, add a bio, link their blog, and add a photo.

Another site that is important to use is Goodreads. Become an Goodread author, (follow their procedures) and once you have an author page, add your books and even a bio. The author page on Goodreads bio allows hyperlinks, you just have to embed them properly.

BookBub is a book site that has different packages for promotion of books (you have to be accepted and they have pricing for different types), but it also allows authors to create an author profile (for free, but you have to be verified).

Sites like Facebook or Twitter, where you can market your work for free, but those posts or tweets only last until the next post, and they are about everything.

An author should have a Facebook page, and I believe it should be separately from your Facebook profile, where readers and authors alike can "follow" you. It is up to you if you wish to have a different page for each book, I personally have a writer's page on Facebook where I promote my own work, and will share posts and links from others about writing or writing related, and I do have a separate Facebook page for my Saga series, only because there are so many volumes within the series.

Marketing yourself is important, and in many cases it can be done for free or minimal costs.

If new authors need help setting any of these up, I have services where I can help authors set up or review their pages.
