The long wait for Top Boy season 3 is almost over.

It's been nearly two years since Netflix announced it would revive the critically-acclaimed crime drama series starring rapper-actor Ashley Walters, but there is finally some news about its arrival.

Walters himself has confirmed the third season will stream worldwide on Netflix beginning on September 13, captioning his announcement: "#Alwayswinning."

The revival of Top Boy was aided by hip-hop superstar Drake coming on board as an executive producer for ten new episodes, after becoming a super-fan of the show.

However, Ashley Walters himself recently told Digital Spy that he'd been the one constantly pushing his production company to bring back Top Boy even before Drake's involvement.

"We actually were starting to do storylines for season three," he revealed to us. "That's when Channel 4 dropped the commission on it. So it was a shock to everyone.

"Everyone else wanted to leave it alone at that point. The production company, everyone else that was involved. I was the one calling every week, every week, just like, 'We need to bring back Top Boy. People love it'.

"I think it was season one and two going on Netflix that changed the game, because then people like Drake got to watch it. It just spiralled from there."

The new series will feature Kano reprising his role as Sully alongside Ashley Walters's Dushane, with UK hip-hop stars Little Simz and Santan Dave among the newcomers joining the cast.

Top Boy premieres on September 13 on Netflix worldwide.
