Home and Away actor Jake Ryan has admitted that his soap storyline prepared him well for real-life fatherhood.

Running parallel to Jake's personal life, his character Robbo is expecting a baby through IVF, and during a recent shopping channel launch, the actor told Daily Mail Australia that this has provided invaluable practice.

Jake was given an eight-week crash course on the Home and Away set, and said he's learned all the tricks of the trade when it comes to looking after little ones.

"It's been really great training, I've had daily baby classes, it's been great," he noted.

"I've had a crash course for the last eight weeks, it's like baby school university."

The actor and his DJ girlfriend Alice Quiddington are currently awaiting the arrival of their baby boy, who's due anytime in the next couple of weeks.

He added: "I just want it to come out now, I'm ready to meet the little man".

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 (Australia).
