South Korean government has approved a new mobility business using licensed taxi pools, paving the way for established players and newcomers to compete with the leading transportation service app Kakao T. The country’s new mobility company jointly formed by nine taxi operators and a big data technology company has launched a cab-hailing service called i.M.

It began operating the service with 50 units of Kia New Carnival minivans in December, after modifying them to run on Autogas. It also hired drivers as full-time workers to avoid any legal disputes related to employment status. It has a winning edge as it can pick up passengers on the streets like any cab.

The new business plans to operate 200 New Carnival vehicles next year and expand the fleet to 1,500 units.

Another popular Autogas model for taxi fleets is the Renault Samsung Motors QM6 LPe, which is the country’s first LPG-powered SUV. According to the automaker, the QM6 model has climbed the sales chart to lead company’s performance this year: it sold 4,323 units in October, up 35.6% from the month before.

The gasoline model, QM6 GDe, takes 50.7% of the total sales of QM6, with 2,191 units, while the other half is taken by the Autogas version. For more information about the new taxi service, visit this link and about Renault Samsung’s Autogas SUV, check here.
