Canonical has shared with us today a new infographic that shows how their Ubuntu Linux operating system is being used all over the world by big-name companies the offer their services to millions of consumers.

More than two years ago, when Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) was released, Canonical put together an infographic to show the world how many people use Ubuntu and on which devices. With Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) out the door this year, they did it again and published a brand-new infographic to show the world that Ubuntu and Linux are everywhere.

"Two years on, and with 18.04 LTS now released, we take a new look at how Ubuntu has evolved and is at the heart of emerging technologies including AI, blockchain, robotics and more," says Canonical. "We also share the growth of Ubuntu’s cloud presence and how Ubuntu continues to pervade multiple industries, devices and is used by millions globally."

Ubuntu connects everything

Believe it or not, Ubuntu connects everything, just like Canonical's new infographic says. From big-name companies like Netflix, PayPal, eBay, Bloomberg, Spotify, and Sky, who use Ubuntu to run their global tech operations, to the European Space Agency’s 5G Satellite Networks, Ubuntu is being used everywhere in between, including autonomous cars, blockchain, and every type of robotics.

The infographic also shows us that Ubuntu is very popular on private and public clouds, as well as bare metal as it has been launched more than 300 million times in 2017 alone. It's also being used to power Kubernetes across multi-cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud, and it's powering AI (Artificial Intelligence) from development to production.

On top of that, Ubuntu is also used by a developer ecosystem that's larger than the combined population of Estonia, Iceland, Fiji, Isle of Man, and Brunei. Also, about 40 percent of Linux user have chosen Ubuntu for their IoT (Internet of Things) solution, and Ubuntu is being used by popular hardware manufacturers like IBM, Intel, Nvidia, Dell, Qualcomm, ARM, and Raspberry Pi.
