The world's largest internet company is coming to Balzac and this week they're hiring in Airdrie.

Amazon is looking to hire more than 600 full-time positions for their soon to be completed fulfilment centre in Balzac and are hosting a week-long job fair along with Rocky View and Wheatland Employment Services.

Carrie Axten, a Senior Manager with Rocky View Employment says all of the positions being hired for this week are Fulfillment Associates.  "Examples could be stockers or packers.  If you go to the Amazon site they've got a lot more information on what the job entails, what type of salary you're looking at, benefits and that sort of information."

Axten says this is a great opportunity for local job seekers.

"It's wonderful that Amazon has picked this location as their fulfilment centre.  It's a great opportunity to begin working with a company that's growing and expanding throughout North America.  It's exciting."

Axten says Amazon approached them about working together on the job fair.  "They really wanted to work with local partners in the community and Rocky View has been in the community for a long time now and provides a range of employment services and works with a range of business partners.  So they wanted to work with somebody local, somebody that's well established as well as could provide ongoing support whenever someone needs it."

The job fair is taking place at the Town and Country Centre, 275 Jensen Drive NE in Airdrie from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm every day this week.  Axten says it's important that people register for the event, rather than just showing up.  To register, go to amazon.com/calgaryjobs.

Amazon was started in 1994 by Jeff Bezos and is based in Seattle.  In 2017 the company had revenue of over $177 Billion and net income of over $3 Billion.

In October 2017 they announced plans to build the fulfilment centre at Balzac.
