Buy Gas on Mondays to Save Money

Buy Gas on Mondays to Save Money

We spend a lot on gas. In June 2018, according to a report by AAA, we spent $69 more each month on gasoline, as compared to the summer before.

And for those of us who rely on Uber and Lyft as our only car transportation, we’re not immune, either. Last summer, faced with rising gas prices, drivers from both ride-share programs signed a petition addressed to both companies asking for relief. Ultimately, these costs fall on us as consumers, too.

With spring coming (and gas prices already rising), is there anything you can do to save some dough? A study by GasBuddy provided to USA Today found one simple hack that’ll likely save you some money: Fill up your car on your way to the office on Mondays.

According to GasBuddy, on average, Monday morning is the best time to fill up, when gas stations are usually at their quietest, and accordingly, prices are at their lowest (followed shortly by Tuesdays). Later in the week, you’re more likely to encounter higher and more volatile pricing, with some gas stations at their busiest on Fridays around 5PM.

This does depend on where you live though. As a whole, weekends are generally a bad time to gas up, as some states’ gas stations peak in pricing during that time. (States like Utah are a rare exception—Sunday is the best day to fill up there.)

Trying to avoid crazy gas prices near you? Here are the days you should avoid pumping gas in each state, per GasBuddy.

: Alabama, Connecticut, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota
