For Summer 2018, I wanted a cute protective style that gave ? Take Me To The Beach, Boi ??♀️vibes.
And I also wanted to make sure my hair would be super moisturized from the start to ensure that my hair doesn’t break off or suffer from sun exposure. So when Coconut Restore asked me to use their leave-in, gelee, and hair oil to get the look I wanted for the summertime, I was BEYOND THRILLED.

Using Coconut Restore To Prep and Care For Havana Twists and Other Protective Styles:
Clarify, cleanse, and condition 2 days before your braiding sessions: You want to make sure your natural hair is perfectly prepped for braids, twists, and extensions so give your stylist a clean and conditioned base to start with. To clarify, I pour about 10-15 drops of eucalyptus oil and 1 cup of apple cider vinegar into a clean plastic, pointed-nozzle bottle, shake it up, and massage it into my scalp. Then, I cleanse my curls at least twice with Moisture Replenishing Shampoo, followed by rinse-out Daily Strengthening Conditioner.
Using leave-in the day before your braiding session: So that my hair is nice and soft for the stylist, I use a leave-in that has a reliable emollient in it. Since I’m a fan of coconut oil for my low porosity, dense curls, the Coconut Restore Curl Control Leave-In Conditioner worked beautifully for me. I put it in before I did a blow out on my curls. Why did I blow my curls out? To make sure that the stylist wouldn’t have to install the twists on my tightly coiled curls. Most stylists prefer this because it’s easier for them to work on curls that are thoroughly detangled. The looser curl also makes adding the braiding hair easier.
Bring a reliable hair gel with you to the session: I’m so glad professional hairstylist Valencia was excited to use the Coconut Restore Setting and Styling Gelee. She told me how much she loved the slip it gave my hair (and that’s a hard thing to do with my medium-coarse coils”>. She loved it SO MUCH that she did something new in her braiding process: she did not use edge control gel at the base of my hair to form the braid; she applied the gelee first, and only used the edge control to wrangle in wild hairs as she worked down the braid and twist. Relieve tension after your protective style is installed: No matter what type of protective style you choose to wear this summer, you’ll always always always need to find a way to relieve tension that occurs after your session. A few of my favorite essential oils to use are peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree, rose, and coconut. Since Coconut Restore was kind enough to give me their Revitalizing Whipped Coconut Oil, I wanted to try it on my scalp and my natural hair that’s braided and twisted into the extension.
