Spider-Man trilogy veteran Elizabeth Banks went on Twitter and threw some brutal shade at Tom Hardy's Venom. In comic books, the evil alien symbiote Venom first merged with Spider-Man back in 1988, essentially turning Spidey into an evil twin type villain. The character later made his movie debut in Spider-Man 3 when he merged with host Eddie Brock, played by Topher Grace. Now, Venom gets his own movie starring Hardy as Eddie Brock, with Spider-Man likely nowhere to be seen (unless Peter Parker gets a surprise cameo).

Awhile back the first trailer dropped for Venom, giving us our initial glimpse of Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock...but no glimpse of Venom himself. Many were irritated by the trailer's lack of Venom, including Kevin Smith who dubbed the clip "Tom Hardy: The Movie." Now the second trailer has prematurely debuted - apparently in response to being leaked - and this time fans get to actually see the symbiote for the first time. To the delight of many, the movie retains the classic look of the Venom character, right down to its huge fangy horror movie grin and long, spiky tongue.

But not everyone out there fell head over heels in love with Tom Hardy's scary looking, comics-accurate Venom. Banks, who starred alongside Grace in Spider-Man 3, went on Twitter and threw some amazing shade at the character. See the tweet below:

Venom bares his teeth

Spider-Man 3 you may remember did not go over well with fans, with much of the blame for the movie's failure falling on the shoulders of Grace and Venom. While Venom's look may have satisfied fans, many found Grace's performance as Eddie Brock lacking. A lot of folks have actually argued that the film should've left out Eddie Brock entirely and had Venom take over Spider-Man himself, to recreate the classic "black Spider-Man suit" arc from the comics. Fan irritation over the way the movie misused Venom fueled later calls for the anti-Spidey to get his own movie. And now, that dream Venom film will finally happen.

But does Spider-Man 3's Venom really deserve so much hate, or does that movie's "cheesy" version of the character get a bad rap? It seems we know what Banks thinks about that question. Of course, Banks likely just feels the need to stick up for her co-stars, including Grace, who still receives a lot of hate for his Eddie Brock performance. Thus far however, Banks appears to be in the minority when it comes to her take on the new Venom. The rest of the trailer promises that Tom Hardy's Venom will be a wild ride, with Hardy bringing acting chops to the superhero genre such as we have seldom seen.
