Why Mentorship Matters: Coaching Women To Strive For The Board And Beyond

This article is more than 5 years old.

In a world where it’s not only what you know but who you know, having an experienced guide is a crucial part of anyone’s professional career. Mentors open doors to job offers, business opportunities, capital and a valuable network of people. And while Silicon Valley is facing a reckoning with its lack of diversity, women at the top of the tech and VC food chain are stepping up to elevate fellow women to the boardroom and beyond. All Raise, the nonprofit founded by 36 female VCs featured as the Forbes’ Midas cover story, is dedicated to redistributing leadership roles, funding and mentorship to women in the venture and founder sphere.

At the inaugural #BoardForward Awards, co-hosted by the female-focused board member recruitment platform theBoardlist, Forbes sat down with Trinity Ventures partner, Anjula Acharia, Art.com CEO, Kira Wampler and Glassdoor CPO Heather Friedland to discuss the personal and professional value of mentorship.
