Georgia's Senate runoff election had the unexpected effect of causing Grand Admiral Thrawn of Star Wars fame to trend on social media.Thrawn began trending on Twitter when an old tweet from Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff resurfaced the night of the election. "Will it be the Thrawn Trilogy? #starwars #episode7," he wrote on Oct. 30, 2012 -- the same day The Walt Disney Company announced it would purchase Lucasfilm and release a new trilogy of Star Wars films.RELATED: REVIEW: Star Wars Furry Wampa Rug Will Melt Your Winter Blues

Mitth'raw'nuruodo, better known as Grand Admiral Thrawn, is a member of the Chiss race who served as a high-ranking officer in the Imperial Navy. The character was created by Timothy Zahn and debuted in 1991's Heir to the Empire -- the first novel in the aforementioned Thrawn Trilogy. However, his history was all but erased when Lucasfilm declared the Expanded Universe no longer canon, and he was reintroduced in Season 3 of Star Wars Rebels.

Rebels ended with Thrawn going missing along with Ezra Bridger during the events of the Galactic Civil War, but he was namedropped by Ahsoka Tano in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, seemingly setting the stage for his return in the upcoming Ahsoka series on Disney+.

As for Ossoff, he's currently ahead in the election and expected to secure the Senate seat.
