Before we start, can someone shed some light on how to pronounce the name of Vaporesso’s latest sub-ohm tank? Is it a very formal “S.K.R.R?” Or do we need to channel our inner pirates and let out a huge “Skerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr?” Well, regardless of pronunciation, Vaporesso is onto something with this series. Because the Vaporesso SKRR-S Mini is a pretty good, compact sub-ohm offering for those who want some big tank performance in a smaller package.

I’m not sure we’re going to see the SKRR-S Mini on our “best of” lists, but it’s a serviceable sub-ohm tank worthy of consideration, especially if it’s part of a kit. Let’s see the official line:

The SKRR-S Mini 23mm Sub-Ohm Tank is the latest sub-ohm tank from Vaporesso, providing a threaded top-fill, upgraded dual bottom airflow ring, and the utilization of the QF Coil System. Formed from durable stainless steel, the SKRR-S Mini tank has pyrex glass reinforcement to prevent breaking during light and moderate falls. The SKRR-S Mini Tank adopts the newly introduced Quadflow (QF) Air Distribution System, in which airflow channels into the atomizer core and spreads internally in four directions. The Vaporesso QF Coil System utilizes the combination of cotton and flax materials for a long-lasting yet flavor-enhanced performance with the following coil options: 0.2ohm QF Meshed and 0.15ohm QF Strip. At the top of the Vaporesso SKRR-S Mini Sub-Ohm Tank is a threaded top fill system, designed for fast and easy refills by removing the top cap to reveal a generously large fill port that allows the tank to hold up to 3.5mL of juice within the pyrex glass.

Impressions

Today’s word is “understated.” The SKRR-S Mini is a scaled-down version of the original SKRR tank, eliminating a lot of the overblown design elements from the full-sized edition. It still features an extended glass section, giving you 3.5mL of capacity, but where the SKRR was an exercise in excess, the Mini tones things down considerably

Vaporesso SKRR-S Mini Tank ReviewAt just 23mm at its widest, the SKRR-S Mini is definitely a throwback to simpler times. Because of the size and squatty design this tank won’t look quite right on many larger mods. But those smaller devices (like its natural companion, the Vaporesso Luxe Nano) feel right at home connected to the SKRR-S Mini.

One thing that concerned me during testing was the top-fill cap, which simply screws off … maybe TOO simply. Several times during testing, the cap removed itself from the tank, leading to some messy, fruity smelling pocket linings. While I liked how this cap made the tank much easier to fill on the go, 3.5mL of e-liquid can go a long way when sloshing around your front pockets.

But overall, Vaporesso made the most of the real estate here, with smooth machining and threading, and easy to install coils… speaking of which…

Vaporesso SKRR-S Mini Tank ReviewStandout Features

Just as it was with the original, full-sized SKRR, the Mini is largely defined by its coils. And in that sense, Vaporesso has once again delivered, in a very big way. Even though the included QF strip and mesh coils are suitably small to fit the tank, these innovative heads perform like coils twice their size. There’s plenty of wicking holes, so dry hits won’t ever be an issue. And the way they’re laid out help sure all areas of the coil are moistened, so there isn’t any clogging or choking during extended sessions.

The results are magnificent – rich, nuanced flavor and huge vapor production, from coils barely larger than some mouth-to-lung (MTL) offerings we’ve seen on shelves. And, to make things even better, they last! I managed to get more than a week from each of the included coils. Maybe this isn’t world-beating performance, but considering how much punch I got from these diminutive heads, it’s more than satisfying.

Vaping the Vaporesso SKRR-S Mini Tank

Vaporesso SKRR-S Mini Tank ReviewOf course, all this performance comes at a price – juice consumption. Combining a limited 3.5mL capacity (2mL if you’re in Europe) with high-flow, high-thirst coils is a recipe for LOTS of refilling. Like, you’ll be able to track juice consumption with each puff kind of refilling.

Of the two coils, the QF mesh head provided the higher flavor clarity than the QF Strip, but both are quite good and will keep vapers satisfied for a lot longer than you’d expect given the cloud production.

What I liked about the SKRR-S Mini was simple – great flavor and cloud production in a miniature package. What I didn’t like was just as simple, but a lot more annoying. Not only was I refilling at an exponential rate, but I also got some weird, random leak surges from the airflow ring. At one point, the entire tank just emptied onto my desk, as if the internal vacuum just gave up trying.

Once I cleaned and refilled, everything went back to normal (meaning some occasional, normal leaking). But this was disconcerting, to say the least.

Vaporesso SKRR-S Mini Tank ReviewAlso, just as an aside, I feel like the smaller capacity and snugger mouth feel would have been an opportunity for Vaporesso to possibly reach out to MTL vapers. But despite the size, the SKRR-S Mini remains exclusively a sub-ohm device, when it could have been a more versatile road warrior tank for those who like different styles of vaping.

Pros

– Long-lasting coils

– Rich flavor clarity

– Ridiculous vapor production for a “mini”

Cons

– Juice consumption is off the charts

– Random leaks and vacuum loss

– Fill port pops off occasionally

Spinfuel VAPE Recommendation and Score

I really wanted to love this little tank. And when it came down to flavor and vapor, I certainly did. But when the practical aspects of vaping – efficiency, portability, convenience – the SKRR-S Mini came up short more than once.

The loose top cap is a problem. The juice consumption is disproportionate. And the random leak surges are unforgivable. So, even with all the positives, there are just too many issues for me to give this a top recommendation. But nonetheless, the SKRR-S Mini is definitely worth a look, if just to see that the quirks I experienced were just that – quirks.
