THE MEMORY WOOD

THE SPLENDID AND THE VILE

by Sam Lloyd

The must-read debut novel of 2020. When twelve-year-old Elijah stumbles across thirteen-year-old Elissa in the woods, he refuses to alert the police because he has never had a friend in his life. Drawing on once-secret intelligence reports and diaries, bestselling author Erik Larson gives a new and brilliantly cinematic account of Winston Churchill, Britain’s most iconic leader. Larson follows Churchill as prime minister through the fraught meeting rooms, streets and air raids of London’s darkest year, and Churchill as family man into his home, where tensions were just as complicated.
