Undeliverable USCIS Documents to be Destroyed
This week, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services made an announcement in regards to the destruction of undeliverable documents. Beginning on April 2, 2018, the USCIS plans to destroy any Permanent Resident Cards, Employment Authorization Cards, and any Travel Documents that the United States Postal Service returns. The documents will be destroyed 60 business days after they are returned by the U.S. Postal Service in the event that the individual has not contacted the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services agency to provide them with the correct address so it can be resent.
It is essential that an individual informs the USCIS of any change of address no later than 10 days after they actually move. The only people who are exempt from this requirement include the following groups:
- Diplomats with visa status A
- Official government representatives to an international organization, which is visa status G
- Certain nonimmigrants who are only in the United States for less than thirty days and do not have a visa in their possession
