Valve has released a major Steam Client stable update for all supported platforms, including Linux, Mac, and Windows, to add several new features and dozens of improvements.

As revealed during the beta stages, the new Steam Client update enables Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) connectivity for the Steam Controller, which will be required for Valve's upcoming Steam Link app for Android and iOS devices to stream games to a smartphone or tablet device. Check out our instructions here on how to enable Bluetooth support on the Steam Controller.

The update also adds support for the Nintendo Switch Pro controller, which you'll be able to use to play your favorite Steam games, as well as support for the NACON Revolution Pro 2 PS4 controller. Also, Valve improved the behavior of joystick auto-calibration, software gyro drift correction, and the handling of controller configuration when disabling the Steam Overlay.

There's also now a new button to help you calibrate gyro without doing joystick calibration and a new Gyro Enable Button toggle. Of course, there are several fixes to improve controller support, so you should have a better experience with your favorite controller after updating to the new Steam Client stable update.

Improved navigation of the Steam Library pane, Linux fixes, and more

The new Steam Client stable update brings a bunch of various other improvements to make your Steam experience more stable and reliable. For example, the internal web view was updated to Chromium 65.0.3325.181, and the responsiveness of the Steam Client window was improved when navigating the Library pane.

The In-Game Overlay was improved for some Vulkan apps as well, and you can now capture screenshots for games built with Unreal Engine 4 in OpenGL mode again. For In-Home Streaming, Valve added support to interrupt a remote desktop session, as well as support for connecting to a locked Windows computer.

"Added support for connecting to locked Windows computers, as long as Steam is running and you have access to a keyboard," reads the announcement. "Added support for interrupting a remote desktop session. Connecting will show the login screen when an RDP session is active, and logging in will disconnect RDP and start streaming the desktop normally."

Among other improvements, we can mention that the splash animation which appeared after launching Big Picture via Steam Link was removed, the Restart/Suspend/Shutdown menu options have been re-added when streaming to Steam Link, and Big Picture mode won't exit when disconnecting streaming while a game is still playing.

For Linux users, Valve added support for recent Mesa graphics stacks to fix low resolution in Big Picture mode and incorrect or rainbow colors when streaming games from the desktop. It also fixed a bug that won't allow users to re-add their old Steam Library folders to the Steam Client, and a couple of other issues.

The new Steam Client stable update is now rolling out to Linux, Mac, and Windows users worldwide. To update, simply open the Steam Client, go to the main menu and click on the "Check for updates" menu entry. Restart the client once the update was downloaded and you should be ready to enjoy the new features and improvements.
