Courtney Act has revealed Conchita Wurst’s HIV diagnosis is a non-issue, after the Eurovision star told her fans she was HIV positive last month.

The Austrian singer took to Instagram in April with a heartfelt post where she spoke about her diagnosis because an ex-boyfriend threatened to go public.

She’s been close friends with Courtney for a long time, and now the 36-year-old drag queen has shown her support and has opened up on Conchita’s illness.

Speaking to Bang Showbiz she said: ‘It’s something that’s she’s been living with for years, and has been a non-issue for Conchita. Now she’s put a public face on such a private issue and it’s really important for a lot of people out there who are either living with HIV and suffering from the stigma surrounding it.’

She then went on to say how a lot of people don’t have a large understanding about the disease and claimed that it is important that they educate themselves.

Courtney said: ‘I think the wider community may not know that HIV-positive people are living full and healthy lives because of the wonders of modern science.’

Before adding: ‘A lot of Conchita’s audience is the wider population and Conchita’s giving them the facts about living with HIV and it’s a great thing that she’s done.’

The pair met at a festival in Vienna around four years ago and have since gone on to collab together on a number of projects.

Courtney sang with Conchita with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Opera House and also performed at Mardi Gras together in Sydney.

The RuPaul star is convinced that her pal has come to terms with her diagnosis and is proud of her for speaking out.

Just last month Conchita spoke about her illness on Instagram where she revealed she is unable to transmit the virus.

She said: ‘Until now, I did not want to go public with this information for a number of reasons, only two of which I’ll mention: first and foremost my family, who know everything and have been supporting me since day one.

‘I would have gladly spared them the attention connected to the hiv-status of their son, grandson and brother. Likewise, my friends have been aware of this for quite some time and are dealing with it with an impartiality, that I would wish everyone concerned.’

She continued: ‘Secondly, it is information that, in my opinion, is almost exclusively relevant to those with whom sexual contact would be an option.’
