Sinuous V80 Kit by WISMEC – A Review

If we were rating vape mods for their looks, the new Wismec Sinuous V80 would go right to the head of my line. I absolutely fell in love with the translucent exterior and compact hand feel right from the get-go.

Synonymous with advanced vaporizer design work, Wismec Sinuous has from the get-go established itself as one of the vaping industry’s premiere names. With rave reviews from both the sector’s journalistic component as well as the ever-increasing fanbase, the company continues to break new ground.

 Their latest innovation, the Wismec Sinuous V80 Starter Kit, featuring the Amor NSE vape tank, represents the company’s ethos in pushing the boundaries of science and engineering. Lightweight and compact, the Wismec V80 Starter Kit perfectly adapts to any lifestyle. Just as well, this kit responds immediately to any situation with aplomb.

Aplomb? Damn, that’s a good word. Let’s see if the specs have some more of them…

Damn, I love the way the Sinuous V80 looks. I don’t always love the whole “translucent view” thing, but because the V80 is so compact, it limits the effect, enhancing its impact. But the minimal translucency, along with the matching Amor NSE tank make for a solid presentation all around.

The large, side-mounted fire button is a definite highlight, with a perfect, clicky throw that feels great, no matter how you hold this tiny, palm-friendly mod. However, the up/down adjustment keys are a little less impressive. While they’re firm to the touch, I had a few instances of sticking, leading to some unpleasant draws when I wasn’t paying attention the next time I fired. (Always check your displays before puffing away, kids.)

Speaking of the Sinuous V80 display, the industry-standard 0.96-inch display is in place here, with the usual array of details and information. If you’ve seen any mod made in the last five years, you’re probably familiar with the format. And the menu system is just as familiar. Personally, I hope China runs out of these 0.96-inch displays soon, just so they can reclaim that missing 0.04 inches and revolutionize the industry.

Kidding, kidding. The V80’s display and menus are fine, if unimpressive. Newcomers will adapt quickly, and vaping veterans will feel right at home with the three-click system that they’ve probably memorized by now.

Normally, companies would try to cram an internal Li-Ion battery inside a device like this, just to maximize convenience for new users, but the V80 is a single-18650 device that delivers true 80-watt power. Though its target audience probably won’t need the headroom, the included 0.27-ohm mesh coil does have some decent sub-ohm chops, so it’s a versatile mod, that’s for sure.

Standout Features

I promised in a different review that I wouldn’t use this space exclusively for tank discussions. But it looks like I’m a liar, because given the beginner-friendly nature of the Sinuous V80, the Amor NSE tank really is the key selling point.

Truth be told, the Amor NSE is a pretty solid tank, especially if you waffle between sub-ohm and mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping. The diminutive design and narrow drip tip section isn’t designed to fog up any rooms, but for light sub-ohming, the included 0.27-ohm WS-M coil does an admirable job of balancing flavor and vapor production.

The Amor NSE’s real calling card (and the kit’s for that matter) comes with the 1.3-ohm companion coil in the box. Using much less power, the Amor delivered sharp, punchy jolts of flavor, thicker (if less abundant) vapor, and a delightful throat hit that brought me back to simpler times in vaping. At barely 25 watts, I was pleasantly surprised how well the coils hit… and even more surprised by how long they lasted. I’m approaching two weeks with these heads, and both mesh offerings are still going strong, with little sign of slowing down.

Vaping the Wismec Sinuous V80 Kit

One of the V80’s best qualities is also one of the biggest causes of concern – the lightweight plastic shell. While I love the translucent aesthetic, and how its used sparingly to accent the overall design, the V80 doesn’t really feel like it would survive too many bumps and bruises before shattering into a thousand pieces.

Thankfully, my usual clumsiness was under control during the testing period, and the V80 didn’t have to endure any sharp falls to concrete sidewalks. But there’s no doubt it’s going to happen, and I’m not looking forward to it.

That aside, the V80 contains a decent amount of basic features for such a compact mod. No one would have faulted Wismec for making this a wattage-only device, but a thorough temperature control and TCR suite is at your disposal, should you want to try different atomizers with the device.

One minor concern I had was with the maximum resistance of 1.5 ohms. While most MTL vapers don’t need resistances higher than this, I worry that the usual TC hiccups might cause a higher-resistance coil to throw errors unnecessarily. It didn’t happen, even with my higher-ohm builds, but TC aficionados might see things differently.

Otherwise, the Sinuous V80 ramped smoothly and steadily, never skipping a beat along the way. Though battery life drained mightily above 70 watts, that’s to be expected with a single-18650 device, and isn’t a slight against the V80, which was efficient and reliable in most other situations.

As a solid road-tripper, or backup mod, the Wismec Sinuous V80 kit makes a lot of sense. It has decent sub-ohm performance, steady battery performance, and an overall ease of use that lends itself to this type of use. It might not be the most durable or impressive thing we’ve seen from Wismec, but for vapers looking for some versatility, this is a great starting point.
