Use the Washington Post's Vacation Finder to Plan Your Next Trip

Feeling the urge to get out of town—but not sure where you want to go The Washington Post’s Vacation Finder asks a series of questions (domestic or overseas? warm or cool?) to help narrow down your vacation priorities, then provides a handful of destinations to consider. You’ll get a few touristy suggestions, but you’ll also get a few locations you might not have considered as vacation options.

When I took the quiz, my potential vacation destinations included NYC, Savannah, and Breezewood, Pennsylvania—and after reading the Washington Post’s take on biking in Breezewood, I’m starting to get the urge to plan a trip.

Don’t know what you want out of a vacation? Skip the quiz and hit the “I’m feeling lucky” option. My results included everything from Bend, Oregon to Brajčino, Macedonia.

Part of the fun of the Vacation Finder is imagining yourself traveling to cities and towns you might never have heard of, much less thought about visiting. Did I immediately picture myself eating peppery ajvar by the side of a Macedonian mountain lake? Absolutely. (Did I have any idea what ajvar was until I read the Washington Post’s description? Nope.)

The one option that feels like it’s missing from the quiz—and the Vacation Finder in general—is budget. Yes, a lot of travel can be customized to meet your individual spending needs and priorities, but it would have been nice to be able to get a list of lower-cost destinations.

Still, whether you’re planning a vacation or simply dreaming about one, the Vacation Finder is worth a trip.
