Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 2 1.02 is the second maintenance update to the Debian-based operating system used in schools and other educational institutions across the globe. It's based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 9.4 "Stretch" operating system and brings various updated components, as well as improvements like the ability to turn off the script that handles the screensaver images and support for automatically detecting and configuring printers.
"This release is intended to alleviate even more the refurbishing workload on all the associations using Emmabuntüs, notably our friend Robert who, during the last 4 years, equipped 17 kindergarten and primary schools, as well as our friends from the YovoTogo and JUMP Lab’Orione associations who, during the last 3 years, equipped 13 training facilities in Togo, among which 10 high school computer rooms," reads today's announcement.
Shutter and Darktable debut in Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 2
Besides shipping with all the bug fixes and security updates from the Debian GNU/Linux 9.4 "Stretch" operating system, the Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 2 1.02 release updates various components to their latest versions, and adds a couple of new apps, including the Shutter screenshot utility and Darktable RAW image editor, the latter being available only on the 64-bit ISO. Updated apps include HPLip 3.18.4, TurboPrint 2.45, MultiSystem 1.0423, VirtualBox 5.2.10, and Skype 8.20.
Other than that, this release adds an LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) installation icon within the Xfce applications menu to make it easier for users to install LXDE alongside Xfce in case they need an every lighter desktop environment. As with every new Emmabuntüs release, the Wiki was updated as well with new information on how to install and setup the operating system.
