An episode in the next season of Rick and Morty will show Morty with a new female character that is not Jessica.

During a conversation at PaleyFest NY 2020, Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon teased a relationship between Morty and a new crush. "There's an episode in Season 5 where Morty has a relationship with another female character that's not Jessica," he said. "It's just a great little story and my very, very longtime friend and collaborator Rob Schrab wrote it ... He's also a very tender writer; a juvenile, John Hughes, he really feels heartache on a level a man his age shouldn't. There's an episode coming up in Season 5, my Emmy is going to that one."

Jessica has been Morty's love interest for most of the series. In Season 4's "Vat of Acid Episode" -- the episode that won Rick and Morty its second Emmy -- creators teased the idea of Morty being with someone else. In this episode, Morty used Rick's new "save point" invention to create the perfect future, where he falls in love with a new girl. However, Morty forgot to save his progress into this new future and lost the girl forever.

Despite the introduction of a new girl, it appears that Morty won't be completely over Jessica. Adult Swim recently released an animatic first look at Season 5 of Rick and Morty that dove into Morty's relationship with Jessica. In the animatic, Rick and Morty are crashing to Earth when Morty calls Jessica to tell her his feelings. Jessica responds by saying she wished he had told him sooner and invites him to watch a movie that night.

Created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, Rick and Morty stars Roiland as Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, Chris Parnell as Jerry Smith, Spencer Grammer as Summer Smith, Sarah Chalke as Beth Smith and Kari Wahlgren as Jessica. The release date for Season 5 has not been announced yet.
