Broughshane has been crowned the UK's Village of the Year 2018

Britain is home to many beautiful villages that provide us with endless inspiration for holidays in the UK. If it was down to us, they would all accept an award for their most outstanding feature – be it their coastal views, Grade Listed buildings, memorable village events or unwavering community spirit. But one has come out on top...

Penelope Keith has crowned the best village in the UK as part of Channel 4's Village of the Year 2018.

And the winning village is... Broughshane, in County Antrim, Northern Ireland!

Broughshane was chosen for its tight-knit community, including a monthly book club in the local library, beautiful buildings and incredibly green surroundings and views.

The Slemish Mountain, which lies just outside the village and is a popular spot among hikers, is a particular highlight. The mountain served as a Game of Thrones filming location.

The village is also known for its vibrant floral displays which can be found decorating every corner, especially in spring and summer.

It's safe to say that the locals are very happy about it...

Broughshane took the title above two other semi finalists:

Beer, Devon – Western zone winner

Hampstead Norreys – South east zone winner

Bamburgh – Northumberland
