Shay

Jackson Stone is hot—like burn-down-buildings kind of hot. He’s also my brother’s best friend, and the memory of one kiss with him years ago still might get to me. Maybe. But, I am not looking for a second chance.

When I return to the small town of Stolen Hearts Valley, my life is a hot mess. I’m a few bucks shy of broke with nowhere else to go. My heart’s battered and bruised, and when it comes to romance, the door is nailed shut.

But Jackson’s the kind of man women ruin panties over.

When I’m at my most vulnerable, he pulls that whole knight-in-shining-armor thing. What can I say? He’s near impossible to resist.

Jackson

Shay Martin is my best friend’s little sister. And she’s so hot she nearly sets me on fire.

She’s a walking complication, and I don’t do complications. But I can’t seem to stay away from her.

Every look, every kiss, every touch nearly brings me to my knees. I can’t keep my balance, much less think. Before I know it, I’ll do anything for her.

*This is a full-length standalone romance with a guaranteed happily-ever-after.

I know I shouldn't nitpick about the plot or the lack-there of as it isn't the main focus of this book either way.
But the author chose such difficult situations (physical abuse, rape and ptsd from the war) for the main characters and then only discussed the things that happened with the female lead but barely touched the subject of the male lead's trauma. The setting of the farm was cute and the other characters were great. Maybe I didn't read some spots more carefully beforehand but I felt that some characters were introduced to us a tad bit late just to fill some spots.
Also, the pacing felt all wrong. Everything just happened so fast, the main characters caught feelings like in the first week (even though the relationship should have been no strings attached and it was stressed quite a few times but we won't get into that). Then the book ended with a fast forward a year later and then again, half a year later. I know it's for the readers to know that the couple stayed together and normally, this doesn't bother me but as so many things bothered me with this book, I can't help myself not to mention the pacing.
Overall, it was an easy read and did its job fine. Of course with these types of books the plot isn't the focal point but because I felt that even the characters weren't as flushed out as they could've been, the lack of the plot really stood out.

DNF @ 38% – literally, right in the middle of a sex scene.

I’ve put up with more egregious novels in the past, but I just had no patience left for This Crazy Love. When the author spent more time describing the farm animals than actually building the protagonists’ chemistry, I knew it was time to cut my losses. It would have at least been more sufferable had the characters had a slow romance. Instead, the premature kiss/sex scenes felt jarring and forced against the insipid minutiae of Jackson’s workplace.

If you like easy, low-angst, small-town romances then I would recommend this one.

Shay and Jackson had great chemistry and the steamy scenes were frequent and pretty hot. I liked that they bonded over both having trauma in their past (Trigger warning: Shay is a survivor of domestic abuse and rape and Jackson is a military veteran with some PTSD). I feel like the issues were kind of surface-level and could have been explored more deeply but regardless I appreciated the inclusion of these issues.

I liked the ranch setting - and all the adorable animals! - and the glimpses of the side characters who will all presumably be getting their own books down the line. Overall this was a pretty good read and while not the most memorable or groundbreaking, I’m still looking forward to diving into book two.

Shay and Jackson shared an unbelievable kiss years ago. But they moved on, she moved away and was in a relationship. But now she's back in her hometown leaving a very abusive relationship. She wants a fresh start to get back on her feet on her own. So, her brother has set up her working and living at Jackson's farm.

This story was really cute, sexy and I really enjoyed them. They both have baggage but you can't help who you fall in love with. These two were perfect for each other. I can't wait to see other stories with some of the supporting characters of this book!

Jackson & Shay

Worth the read. Escape from an abusive relationship was finally accomplished only after Shay was raped & nearly beaten to death by her ex. Privileged creep with political father eventually was charged only after getting drunk & killing people with his drunken driving. Shay returns home to a childhoods friends ranch & falls in love with her friends brother who happens to be her brother's best friend. With all the tragedy Shay suffers to date she finally finds true love & her hea.

This is book one in the Swoon series and it features Jackson and Shay. She needs a place to lick her wounds. Recovering from a very public and abusive relationship, she’s going to her childhood friend’s ranch. Her brother’s best friend just happens to run this ranch. He just happens to be burn-down-the-building SEXY! They both have their own PTSD to deal with and don’t think either are ready for anything more than a little fun. The sex is ridiculously hot and Jackson is deliciously alpha. Can they overcome all they’ve been through to find happiness together?

The story is slow, in a good way, and deliciously steady. The characters are all fantastic and well developed. I look forward to reading more in this superb series.

But kind of boring. Every chapter we read about her trials and tribulations and his “weak” reason for resisting commitment. But I liked the interaction with “Mischief “.

Even though this is a serious subject matter and no one wants to talk about it, this book shows how the effects of mental, emotional, and physical/sexual abuse last for a long time even though you go through therapy. Sometimes trusting people that were very close to you at one time is hard because of this abuse but sometime once you get out that is the thing you have are family and the very close friends who wouldn't leave no matter what the abuser tried.

What Shay has gone through is so traumatic and she has not told anyone not even the police the whole truth. Luckily there were witness for part of it and they got pictures and a little video to help convict her ex. Everyone knows what happened because her ex is the son of a high profile political figure in the state. Her ex also has alienated most of her friends and her only family, her brother Remy, lives in Alaska. Now she has nowhere to go so when her best friend calls and tells her to come stay with them for as long as she needs she jumps at the chance. She just never thought the crush she had on her best friends older brother to come back full force. Jackson also happens to be her brothers best friend so anything happening between them is off limits.
Jackson remembers Shay as the annoying little sister of his best friend but when she shows up at the lodge he is blown away at how beautiful she is and finds and instant attraction that he knows he needs to fight. He knows what she has been through by what has been in the news and what Remy has told him but also knows that there is more to it. They fight their attraction for a bit but then Shay decides she needs to get rid of the bad memories of sex and Jackson is just the person to give her good ones because he is the only one that she can trust. Can they keep it as just that or will they both get feelings involved? What will happen when Shay moves out of the main house into one of the cabins and avoids Jackson? What will Remy say when Jackson calls him and then Remy calls Shay?

HELLOOO Swoon Series!!! 🔥❤❤❤❤❤🔥

Can you say Swoon worthy?? J. H. Croix has done a fabulous job with this complicated couple worthy of an everlasting love. We met Shay in her brother Remy's book "Crash and Burn" and got a little background info on her situation. You don't have to have read it to understand what's happened, J. H. gives more detail in this book. Let me say Shay is a survivor and stronger than she realizes. She is vulnerable and at an all time low in her life and the only way to go is up and Jackson is just the person to help her. Shay is back home in the Blue Ridge Mountains with almost no money, no job and no desire for any man after her abusive relationship hospitalized her and put her ex in jail. Jackson doesn't do complications but that is where he is headed with his best friends sister all grown up and making his knees weak. It's time to give in to what comes naturally when you can't even think around each other and the chemistry can set fire to the hay your rolling in. I love that Jackson is so understanding of Shay's feelings and fears and doesn't push. Abuse in any form leaves lasting consequences and J. H. Croix touches on them in such that gives victims a voice and support. Shay has to realize her self worth and that not every opportunity given her is not in the form of pity. Jackson and Shay are the perfect couple giving strength and hope at a time most needed. The characters are new friends to be added to your circle. A definite MUST read. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and purchased a copy for my favorites collection. Can't wait for Valentina and Lucas's story "Wait For Me" next in this series and already ordered it.

Be advised the subject matter in this book is discussed casually. We don't like to discuss serious issues, such as emotional, mental & physical abuse, that leads to PTSD. I personally wish it was discussed a bit more in depth. Though I am glad we didn't have some crazy drama where the abuser comes back to haunt the victim. It's bad enough to have it affect your daily life. Let alone when you want to become evolved with someone you care about & instead you have flashbacks or fears of your past abuse.
I know from experience, I deal with it everyday of my life. It's been 35 years later. It still haunts me.
I'm grateful, that they allowed Shay to open up to the lead character, & the man she is physically & emotionally attached to. I just wish they would have gone just a bit deeper into Jackson's history from the military. It seemed the only thing they showed was that Shay noticed his breathing, & anxiousness that occurred once while they ere in bed together. I would have liked her to comfort him once. But I guess the hot sex, was suppose to be his comfort. That he could attempt to be close to someone after all his pain, from wartime.
The main issue in this story is for both leads to learn to trust & believe in love once again. Love will heal all wounds. What this novel boils down too, is Shay, going to let that horrible EX destroy a future with Jackson. Is Jackson, going to lose Shay because he continues to believe he is a broken man & is not good enough for her because of what she went thru.
Or is he going to be the Knight & shining armor & realize that he needs her protection & love just as much as she needs his.

Read the love story of these two & how they need to learn to overcome, horror, scandal & pain. To learn to love one another. The sex is great too.

Shay has come home to the Blue Ridge Mountains to regroup after a beating by her ex landed her in the hospital and her ex in jail. Shay jumps at the chance to get away from all the press and speculation surrounding her, her ex, and what happened the night he attacked her. Jackson is ex-military who came home to run the family farm and business after his father passed away. Jackson has his own baggage from his time in the military and doesn't need any complications in his life. One look at Shay, and Jackson knows she is a complication he needs to stay away from. Shay and Jackson try to ignore their attraction to each other, but Shay wants to push her bad memories of sex and her ex away and knows Jackson is the only man she trusts who can help her. The chemistry between Jackson and Shay is explosive. Can Shay and Jackson keep their relationship to just a fling, or will feelings get in the way? Can Shay and Jackson move past their issues and find they are stronger together than apart? How will Remy react when he learns about Jackson and Shay? Will Shay realize she is stronger than she thinks? Can Shay and Jackson find their happily ever after? I loved This Crazy Love by J.H. Croix! Jackson and Shay's story is full of blazing hot chemistry, emotions, humorous, and sweet. This Crazy Love will hook the reader from the beginning to the end. Amazing first book in the Swoon Series by J.H. Croix. J.H. Croix is a MUST read author for this reader. I would highly recommend getting This Crazy Love and can't wait for the next book in the Swoon Series. I received an ARC of this book from Bad Boy Update, and I am leaving my honest review.

I always look forward to a book by JH Croix. Even if I receive an ARC, I always buy the book because this author is a keeper. An automatic one-click for me. I realized this story moved slowly even though the attraction between Jackson and Shay was electric and intense! Shay had been in an abusive relationship where her boyfriend had almost killed her, outside, where a bystander had caught it on video! The guy was the son of a prominent politician but even that couldn't keep him out of prison when a couple weeks after he assaulted Shay, he also committed a DUI where people were killed. Good riddance. But Shay's life was scrutinized and judged, plus she was brutalized and demoralized. Jackson, a friend of Remy, Shay's brother, and his sister, a friend of Shay's, agreed to take her home to their ranch operation where they ran a vet practice, an animal reascue, an adventure lodge/resort, and a people rescue. There was definitely enough work to keep Shay busy if she wanted to help. What she and Jackson hadn't foreseen was to get socked in the heart with overwhelming feelings!!! Were either of them ready? What's that phrase? The heart wants what the heart wants. I'm not sure either Jackson or Shay believed that!!! Read this captivating story. The author handles the devastating subject of abuse with compassion so we, the readers, understand the trauma and what can happen when ignorant people and caring people assess the same situation. Can't wait for the next book in this exciting new series!!

Shay Martin is back in her small hometown of Stolen Hearts Valley when she left a terribly abusive, damaging relationship. All she wants is a new beginning, a chance to start over and heal. Arrangements are made for her to work and stay with her brothers best friend, Jackson Stone. Many years ago, Shay and Jackson had shared a very special, unbelievable kiss. But both have been through painful, difficult times since then and have no expectations of any kind of relationship.

Jackson had a picture in his mind of the annoying little sister of his best friend. Seeing the woman she has become brings an instant attraction and he feels unworthy of her because of his own damaging pain from the military. He was aware of some of the experiences she had endured, even though he knew that probably wasn’t the whole story. Shay likewise fights the feelings that she has for this man. Jackson is so different from her horrible ex. Maybe taking a chance with him can bring back the trust that her ex beat out of her. Maybe it’s time to make some new and better memories – for both of them?

This was such a good story! The characters were wonderfully described and the chemistry between the two felt so natural. The story line was well paced, steadily moving through the experiences and pain the two have suffered toward hope of something better. The author has a real talent with bringing believable events into the story to touch the heart and bring hope and healing to worthy individuals who need it most. Grab your copy and experience their journey.

This Crazy Love, a Swoon series book by J.H. Croix is everything the blurbs promise. Shay is the sister of Remy from Crash and Burn. We have moved from Alaska to the Southeast. Jackson is Remy's best friend. Shay has been through a lot, most especially an abusive boyfriend, who has left her life in tatters. Remy just wants her to be safe. Since he can't see to it, his best friend Jackson seems like the perfect adjunct. It was not supposed to be a job, just a refuge but soon Jackson has things for her to do. It's not too long before chemistry takes over despite Shay's bad experience and Jackson's PTSD.

This book is a hot romance, just like all of Croix' books. It couldn't be more perfect. It hits on hot button topics in today's world and makes them so real that if you don't have direct experience, you do now. Shay starts off broken and the reader can feel it, but as she slowly comes back to herself, she makes your day. Jackson is strong and tough and afraid of how Remy will react. These men. They know what they are doing so they can't have that happen to their sister...makes you laugh. This is totally a character driven book and it couldn't be better. Since romance has a foregone outcome, it is the journey that makes or breaks the book. The journey was fabulous. Can't wait for her next book! I recommend this book. Not only that, but I suggest that you go back and read all her books. You will
not regret it.

I really loved this story! It was really cute and just a feel good story. Both Jackson and Shay have not had an easy time of it. Jackson was special forces and so he deals with some repercussions from everything that that entails. He has a pretty good handle on it and has found ways of coping and feeling better but is not expecting to ever get in a relationship because of the baggage he carries with him. Shay has just gotten out of an abusive relationship. She is looking to start over and is trying to get back on her feet. Shay's brother and Jackson are childhood best friends and Jackson's sister is Shay's childhood best friend. They grew up together and she comes out to the ranch that Jackson and his sister own to get back on her feet. She helps out on the ranch. The sister is gone, so it is just Jackson and Shay in the big ranch house and there chemistry is off the charts. At first they try and avoid it a little bit but that doesn't last long. I loved the way that this all came about. It was perfect for them and just felt natural and easy. I loved that aspect of this story. They have their issues that they are dealing with and had set everything up as no expectations but the feelings just come on strong. I loved how they handle the changes. The story flows really well. It's smooth and kept me drawn in from beginning to end. This was fantastic and I can't wait to read more of these characters that we met on the Ranch in future books!

I loved this read about Jackson, an ex military man who is running his family’s ranch and Shay, who happens to be his best friend’s younger sister and a woman who needs a new start to her life. Shay was in an abusive relationship and now she has come to the ranch to start over. The two have known each other for many many years and now that the two of them are older, more mature they both notice each other. Shay feels safe with Jackson and wants to be in control, getting over her abusive relationship has been difficult but Jackson brings out the woman she wishes she could have been. Jackson tries staying away from Shay but she is a temptress but he doesn’t do relationships and as their “fling” becomes more...who will be the one to first admit it.
I LOVED this read with steamy and sensual scenes that had me melting, along with Jackson being kind, gentle and understanding with Shay, had my heart fluttering. These two lit up the pages and I couldn’t get enough of them. The story flowed beautifully and I loved the little to no drama between them...they just fit perfectly. I also loved the fact that there were no jealousies, no others coming between them and that the story centered on the two of them, learning to love and being open and honest with each other.
A GREAT GREAT start to a new series and I CAN’T wait for the next one.

This Crazy Love is the first book in the Swoon series, It's a Contemporary romance with a best friends little sister trope. This book touches on domestic assault/rape and PTSD but it also has lots of loveable animals and a great HEA.

Jackson Stone is ex-Special Ops, Veterinarian and runs an animal rescue on the family farm. He is also my brothers best friend and I kissed him while I was in college, a memory I haven't forgotten. I've returned back to my small hometown of Stolen Hearts Valley to get my mess of a life back on track. I'm broke in more ways than one and just need some space and since I don't have anywhere else to go...

Jackson is not into forever and has some issues of his own from his time in the military. He’s hot, my roommate and the chemistry between us is off the charts. Maybe he can take some of my bad memories away and I won't expect anything in return.

Shay Martin is my best friend’s little sister and I haven't forgotten that kiss we shared so many years ago. With one look she sets me on fire but I know she is broken and comes with complications. I don't do messy...

Shay's bedroom is across the hall from mine and I can't seem to keep my distance. But when she draws me into a kiss hotter than the last one we shared, I just want more. I can't get my mind off Shay, I don't know whether I'm coming or going and before to long I will gladly take this Crazy Love and All.

Review:
I really wanted to continue with Small town romances/cowboy story but this one didn't hit the mark for me. I didn't feel the connection between the MMC and FMC. I felt the writing was too long, repetative and dragged out. The constant back and forth was killing it for me. I think if the book had a better flow and was shorter it would have helped. I wished that from the point they got into a relationshiped was worked out better. It now happend as an after thought, or so it felt like it for me.
I also wished the characters where fleshed out a bit better. I kept feeling like I was missing information, or if I was reading the second book in a series instead of the first. Some things just didn't make sense for me.

I did not like how the FMC got over what happened to her, it all felt to casual, to quickly. Now I haven't been through what she went through so I don't speak out of experience but it didn't feel authentic to me.

Sadly overall I didn't like this story at all.

If you like small town romances, cowboy, and brothers best friend do give this book a try. Just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean its a bad book or isn't for anyone.
