Applied Ecology master’s student, April Lamb, received the Noreen Clough Memorial Scholarship for Females in Fisheries.  The scholarship is awarded annually by the Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society to outstanding female researchers working towards a career in fisheries conservation and/or management.  Noreen Clough was the first female Regional Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, a two-time Conservation Director of B.A.S.S., and an integral part of the Southern Division AFS Black Bass Conservation Committee.  April was one of two students to receive the scholarship.  

“I have grown to know and love the fisheries community through my research at NC State and have a profound respect for those who dedicate their lives to conservation work,” says Lamb. “As the B.A.S.S. National Conservation director for many years, Noreen Clough was both an advocate for our aquatic resources and an incredible scientist who understood the value of diversity and collaboration in science. I am honored to receive this scholarship, and excited to continue working on projects, and with people, that I believe in.”

April is supervised by Dr. Jesse Fischer and is planning to graduate in 2020. Read more about April’s research here.
