NEW LOOK & NEW WINDSKIP FEATURE BY RACHIO
The Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controller changes the way you water. It makes running your sprinklers easy and convenient while saving you water and money. Rachio automatically creates a watering schedule that lowers your water bill and ensures the beautiful yard you want. The mobile app gives you access to your sprinkler system from anywhere.

Wind Skip is a Rachio Weather Intelligence feature that prevents waste by not watering when wind speeds are too high. This is because strong winds are likely to disperse the water intended for your plants and leave your vegetation thirsty. If high wind speeds are expected to exceed your pre-determined threshold at your schedule start time, your schedule will be skipped.

Be sure to check out the video above for an overview of the weather intellegence features the Rachio brings to the table! If you're interested in upgrading to a Rachio Smart Controller, give Debbie an email or login to the client hub here and submit a work request

SPRING TIPS & TRICKS

Major causes of turfgrass winterkill are crown hydration, direct low temperature kill, anoxic conditions Major causes of turfgrass winterkill are crown hydration, direct low temperature kill, anoxic conditions under ice sheets, diseases like snow mold, and winter desiccation. These factors often work together to cause turf loss, and damage can be variable across the landscape of a golf course, sports field, or home lawn.

This year snow cover was scarce and rainfall well below normal levels, so we are expecting to see winter desiccation as the major source of turf loss.

Desiccation is extreme dryness that occurs when water in the plant is lost at a faster rate than water is replaced. This is a form of abiotic stress that can happen any time of the year. Symptoms of desiccation involve tissue damage that appears as browning and thinning of the turf canopy. Desiccation to the leaves can be tolerated, and usually water dehydration is not severe enough to affect the crown of the plant. But, newly-seeded or succulent plants are more susceptible to harm and death could occur. Desiccation is most harsh on elevated areas that are exposed to dry winds. Winter desiccation can injure semi-dormant turfs in frozen soil, where the plants are not able to uptake water as fast as they lose water. In our area, these conditions may happen in the late winter or early spring, especially with our recent lack of snow cover.

The most important thing to do now to offset the affects of this winters drought is to start your watering program as soon as possible. Especially on lawns that were seeded last fall or had dormant seed applied in late 2017.

If you have used our Spring Sprinkler System Activation in the past, you are aware how fast our schedule fills up. Please give us a call and get on our schedule, even if you are not planning of using your system immediately.
