Disney announced today that after 10 years of use, the Wonders of Life Pavilion in Epcot’s Future World will no longer be used as the park’s Festival Center. This obviously makes us wonder…What is Disney planning for this space then? Could a new attraction be coming to the Wonders of Life Pavilion? It sure seems like something big is coming.

Early this week, a number of executives from the park and Walt Disney Imagineering were spotted walking into the pavilion in a large group. This coupled with the roof refurbishment and the exit of the Festival Center from the venue leads us to believe that a new attraction (or attractions) is being envisioned for the space as part of the ongoing overhaul of Epcot. What they might be (if happening), we are uncertain just yet.

We know that Disney has a massive Epcot renovation in the works, and Future World will be the focus of that. Right now we know the Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster is coming to the old Universe of Energy Pavilion, and the France Pavilion expansion is fully underway, including the Ratatouille attraction. However Future World certainly needs more than just GotG. It’s been long rumored that Journey Into the Imagination is going away or getting totally changed, but we’ve yet to hear anything concrete lately.

It’s almost certain now after looking at recent permits filed by Disney that a new Epcot Hotel is coming somewhere in the front of the park, just outside the entrance most likely. There still will be a lot more.

The Wonders of Life pavilion closed in 2007. The Body Wars attraction was reportedly decimated during testing of the new Star Tours: The Adventures Continue and Cranium Command has been left pretty much untouched since the closure.

Stay tuned for future updates on this breaking story.
