According to the Daily Mail, at Ed and Dee Parsons 20-week ultrasound their unborn son made a distinct V- sign, a gesture usually associated with world peace. Britain’s wartime leader, Winston Churchhill, used the V-sign as well as celebrity John Lennon. Dee said the sonographer couldn’t believe it and had never seen anything like it before.

Dee said, “It’s nice to have such an iconic image of peace when there’s so much unrest all around us. It was very reassuring.” The new parents were going through a difficult time after losing someone close to them but their unborn baby brought them comfort. Dee added, “We were thinking, we’re bringing this child into the world at such a horrible time. But then this happened; we couldn’t quite believe what we were seeing. All our friends said they thought it was such a positive, happy symbol.”

Now the couple is thinking of naming their son “Winston.” Dee said, “It’s growing on us. But for now we are calling it peace-baby, that’s our nickname.”

As LifeNews previously reported, in May 2010 an unborn baby was seen holding up his thumb to give the thumbs up sign. Marie Boswell told the London Daily Mail newspaper, “I went to the scan with my friend and my mum and we were all just laughing. He was giving us the thumbs up, it was just so clear. We couldn’t believe it. I have big hands, but nothing on the scale of his. We’re thinking he might make a good goalkeeper. I’ve never seen a scan like this before – but we love it. I’ve been keeping it in a book because I want to show it to him when he is older.”

Currently, in the United States, 34 states have ultrasound laws in place, which require abortion facilities to give women a chance to see an ultrasound of their unborn baby prior to an abortion. These laws are critical because statistics show that 78% of pregnant women who see an ultrasound of their baby reject abortion.

Mary Balch, the Legislative Director for National Right to Life, explained why ultrasound legislation is so important. She said, “Clearly, real-time ultrasound images of the unborn child are truthful, not misleading, and can lead to a more informed decision. Ultrasound is a window to the womb allowing the mother to view for herself what is inside her, seeing not opinion but objective and accurate fact.”
