Volunteering Opportunity: SWA Children & Young People’s Service (CHYPS) Forest School Project

Our Forest School project is looking for volunteers to assist our Forest School Leader to deliver sessions to children and young people.

Forest School takes place in a woodland or natural environment, supporting children and young people between the ages of 5 and 17 who have been affected by domestic abuse. The project aims to increase children and young people’s confidence, self-esteem, social skills and emotional wellbeing.

The project is funded by Children In Need until August 2022 to deliver 3 programmes each year, each programme comprises 10 x 2 hour sessions. Sessions currently take place on Saturday mornings 10:00-12:00 at Llys Nini, Penllergaer. Future sessions are subject to a change of day/time and venue, but will always take place outside of school hours.

We are looking for volunteers who have experience of or an interest in supporting children and young people. Volunteers would be expected to commit to at least 1 full programme of 10 sessions each per year.

Forest School volunteers will have the opportunity to achieve the qualification “Award in Outdoor Learning Practice Agored Cymru Level 2” which is delivered by Forest School Swansea Neath Port Talbot. This involves completion of 3 days training, spread over 3 months and the completion of a workbook.

Volunteers will receive Travel and Childcare expenses.
