Wash Away Your Winter Woes

This year, many parts of the country have enjoyed such a mild winter. Spring weather seems like it’s just around the corner-if it hasn’t arrived already.

Spring

  • Inspect exterior siding. Winter can cause paint chipping, damage or even holes in the brick.
  • Prepare air conditioning for summer. Have it serviced if necessary, and replace all air filters.
  • Clear away dead plants/shrubs and plant new ones.
  • Have Ned Stevens power wash the exterior of your home at the beginning of summer.
  • Have your windows cleaned, inside and out.
  • Inspect roof for damage or leaks.
  • Clean your roof if necessary to remove any harmful moss, algae, lichen, etc.  to prevent any costly roof damages or even replacement.
  • Spring clean the interior, from the baseboards to the fridge.
  • Inspect appliances for optimal performance. For instance, you can run a dishwasher cycle with vinegar to remove hard water buildup, or you can remove lint from the dryer exhaust vent with a long, flexible brush.

Summer

  • Exterminate insects. Use bug bombs and bug repellent or call in a specialist to spray your yard for those pesky insects.
  • Clean your deck. If needed, repair it!
  • Clean and organize your garage.
  • Rotate ceiling fan counter clockwise for summer months.

  • Have your windows cleaned, inside and out.
  • Clean and repair driveways, steps and walkways.
  • Check your sump pump, if your home has one. Try dumping a large bucket of water into your sump pump. If it does not automatically click on, you might need to have it serviced by a professional.
