John Wilson, Chief School Financial Officer for the Baldwin County Schools has been named the recipient of the 2018 Robert L. Morton Award by the Alabama Association of School Business Officials (AASBO). The award named after the late Robert L. Morton, former assistant superintendent of administration and finance for the Alabama State Department of Education, is designed to recognize outstanding chief school financial officers in Alabama.
John was born and raised in Baldwin County and graduated from Daphne High School. John went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting from Auburn University and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Auburn University at Montgomery. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner. Before coming to Baldwin County in 2012, John worked for Ernst & Young in Atlanta auditing large public clients throughout the southeast.
As CSFO for more than six years, John continues to administer one of the state’s largest school system’s budgets. As CSFO, his work is not limited to the accounting/budgeting side. John has traveled throughout the county giving numerous presentations, and he regularly attends faculty meetings and monthly meetings for civic organizations, Chambers of Commerce, and more than 30 PTA groups. He has provided critical information in public forums on school budget issues and has provided financial guidance during four county-wide tax referendums. John has also presented at AASBO's professional development programs on best practices in school finance. His innovative approaches to budgetary shortfalls have given one of Alabama's fastest growing county's a continued drive towards enhancing the schools and community.
John is married to Emily Wilson and has two beautiful children, Sealy Kate (4) and Chapman (2). In his spare time, John enjoys spending time with his family and friends, especially on the beautiful lakes and beaches of Alabama.
