Mother of Teen Who Allegedly Planned Uniontown H.S. Shooting Charged
The woman admitted to supplying her 14-year-old son with an arsenal of weapons to teach him responsibility and to “let him grow up”.
The teen was recorded threatening to shoot four students and a relative at Uniontown Area High School.
The mother of a 14-year-old student who was allegedly planning a shooting at his Pennsylvania high school was charged on Monday in connection to the thwarted plan.
Lenora Ann Hendrix, 45, of Markleysburg, Pennsylvania, was charged with knowingly and intentionally delivering or providing a firearm to a minor, reports ABC News.
Hendrix’s son, who hasn’t been identified, was recorded by another student threatening to shoot four students and a relative at Uniontown Area High School.
“The individual also expressed dislike for these four students and his uncle. He indicated it would be extremely easy to sneak a gun into the school in his backpack. He also indicated that he could use a sniper rifle from a distance or a shotgun for mass casualties,” said Fayette County District Attorney Richard Bower. “He didn’t like them, he just didn’t like them.”
Investigators arrested the 14-year-old at his home in Henry Clay Township on January 25 after receiving the tip.
Police searched the teen’s bedroom and discovered a large cache of weapons, including a semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun, two machetes, throwing knives, two lever-action rifles, a revolver, a crossbow and bulk ammunition. Cell phones were also confiscated from the home.
According to the charging document, Hendrix admitted to supplying her son with the weapons. She told police that she allowed her son to store the weapons in his bedroom to teach him responsibility and to “let him grow up”. Records indicate Hendrix has not yet been arraigned on the charge, reports Trib Live.
The teen’s arrest came just days after mass shootings at high schools in Kentucky and Texas. He has been charged with terroristic threats, possession of a firearm by a minor and criminal attempt to commit catastrophe.
As of Tuesday morning, it was still unclear if Hendrix or her son have obtained an attorney.
