HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It’s only October, but it’s a winter wonderland atop Mauna Kea!

A light coating of snow was seen Friday on the summit.

The snow is due to unstable weather near the Big Island, so it likely won’t last long.

Meanwhile, the road to the summit of Mauna Kea is closed to the public on Friday.

Officials said thick fog, poor visibility, wet or icy roads can lead to dangerous conditions.
