A bill recently introduced in the Alabama House would make it illegal for people under the age of 21 to buy, use or possess tobacco products in the state.

House Bill 47 was introduced by Mobile Representative Chris Pringle.  The bill was assigned to the judiciary committee.

Right now, the legal age to buy cigarettes and other tobacco products is 19.  Most people we spoke with said they were not opposed to raising the legal smoking age.  Some thought it was already 21.

The bill follows another bill aimed at regulating tobacco use.  That bill would make it illegal to smoke in vehicles when children are present.
