Drew Barrymore will play a dual starring role in The Stand-In, an upcoming romantic comedy from I’m A Cheerleader director Jamie Babbit.
The actress, who will next be seen in season two of Netflix’s The Santa Clarita Diet, will play both a washed-up movie star and her ambitious stand-in who trade places after the star gets caught for tax evasion and hires her look-alike to do community service in her place. Babbit — whose credits include directing and executive producing HBO’s Silicon Valley and directing episodes of Gilmore Girls, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Girls — will helm the project from an original script by BAFTA-winning writer Sam Bain (Peep Show, Four Lions).
Barrymore, Nancy Juvonen-Fallon, Ember Truesdell and Chris Miller will produce The Stand-In through Barrymore’s Flower Films shingle, together with Brian O’Shea’s The Exchange. The Exchange will handle international sales on the project, introducing the film to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin later this month.
UTA and CAA are handling domestic sales.
The European Film Market kicks off Feb. 15.
