The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM) is seeking nominations for the 2020–2021 cycle. The awards represent the nation’s highest honor for individuals and organizations who work with and serve those that are underrepresented in STEM education and the workforce.
Individuals and organizations in all public and private sectors in both formal and informal settings are eligible for PAESMEM awards, including industry, academia, K-12, military and government, non-profit organizations, and foundations.
Several ASTC members have been honored with the PAESMEM in the past including:
- The Clubhouse Network (TCN), Museum of Science, Boston, Massachusetts (2017)
- Women In Natural Sciences (WINS), Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2014)
- Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (as Miami Museum of Science & Planetarium), Miami, Florida (2004)
- Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research (SOARS), University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), Boulder, Colorado (2001)
In addition to nationwide visibility and appreciation, each awardee will receive a presidential certificate, a paid trip to Washington, D.C., to participate in recognition and professional development events, and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Anyone may nominate exceptional individuals and/or organizations, by completing the simple nomination form on the PAESMEM website. Nominated individuals and organizations will then be invited to complete an application, which will allow them to showcase how their mentoring activities go above and beyond to meet the needs and interests of their mentees. NSF administers the awards on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), which makes the final selection of awardees.
Nominations will close on December 18, 2020.
