Satara Deolai residents demand water, drainage
Aurangabad: The residents of Satara-Deolai on Thursday staged a protest demonstrations in front of the AMC office demanding drainage facility.
The area was recently brought under the jurisdiction of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation.
In a representation made to the mayor Nandkumar Ghodele, the Satara Deolai Sangharsha Samiti, said that they have been repeatedly demanding drainage and drinking water facility from the civic authorities, but to no avail.
“A population of about 50,000 is deprived of many basic amenities like road, drainage, drinking water, desilting of nullahs, management of drains and street lights. This has been causing inconvenience and health problems to many residents,”said the protestors.
They added: “Since monsoon is approaching, the civic body must provide better road and drainage facility to avoid inconvenience to the public.”
The samiti threatened to launch a severe agitation if these facilities were not provided within fifteen days.
The activists said that they would resort to ‘rasta roko’ and hunger strike if the demands are not met. The activists also demanded that civic body mark and protect the open spaces in the area and introduce facilities like gardens and sports grounds.
The action committee has also submitted a charter of demands to the civic body.
The list includes demands for the construction of cement roads between Renukamata Mandir to Ahilyadevi Holkar Chowk and Mahada Colony, installation of street lights, the taxes collected from the area to be spent on the development of Satara Deolai only and regularization of properties without imposing any fine.
