Fall Home Maintenance

Fall is here, and that means: changing weather, falling leaves, and a whole lot of rainfall is on the way. Is your roof ready?
-During a large downpour, falling water decimates your home foundation, washing away landscaping and potentially causing basement leaks. Because of the unfortunate consequences of letting your gutters go un attended it is important to
clean gutters of leaves and debris to help prevent expensive repairs that may cost $10,000 or more.

How to Clean Gutters

1.Wear a shirt with long sleeves. Wear rubber gloves.

2.Have a good extendable ladder available. Standoff stabilizers (ladder “horns”) are ideal to keep the ladder from damaging the gutter.

3.Use a small plastic scoop to remove gunk. Buy a gutter scoop from the hardware store ($25) or try a child’s sand shovel.

4.Spare your lawn by dumping the stuff onto a plastic tarp.

5.After you’ve cleared the muck, flush the gutters and downspouts with a garden hose — also a great way to spot any leaks. (information provided by House Logic)
