Extreme cold slowed FedEx Express operations at Memphis and Indianapolis hubs for the third consecutive night, causing potential delays in deliveries Thursday.

FedEx issued a service alert saying packages could be late across the U.S. because of continuing effects of winter storms that hit Tuesday and subfreezing temperatures that lingered through the week.

Meanwhile, passenger air service at Memphis International Airport was getting back to normal, with cancellations reduced to two flights between Memphis and Charlotte.

FedEx operates about 250 flights a night in and out of its world hub in Memphis and has more than 10,000 employees engaged in loading, unloading and sorting shipments.
