ETSU's Jeromy Rodriguez named player of the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU forward Jeromy Rodriguez has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests Dec. 24-30. The award is selected by the league office.

Rodriguez notched his eighth double-double of the season Saturday in the Bucs’ 79-56 win over Furman, which dropped its second straight after opening the season 12-0 and appearing in the Associated Press Top 25 for three weeks.

Rodriguez shot 8-for-10 from the floor and made three of his four free-throw attempts en route to 19 points on the afternoon. He also pulled down 11 rebounds (10 defensive) as he continued to pace the SoCon in double-doubles on the year.

The redshirt junior from Santiago, Dominican Republic, helped ETSU to its third straight win overall as it moved to 7-0 at home on the season. Rodriguez, who blocked one shot in addition to his work on the defensive glass, and the Bucs held Furman to a season low in points and 25 below its seasonal scoring average.

Rodriguez (175) and the Bucs (638) lead NCAA Division I in total rebounds.

ETSU (11-4, 1-1 SoCon) returns to action Thursday when it hosts Samford (11-4, 1-1) at 7 p.m. at Freedom Hall.

Other nominees: Lew Stallworth (The Citadel), Ross Cummings (Mercer), Isaiah Miller (UNCG), Ruben Guerrero (Samford), Ramon Vila (Chattanooga), Carlos Dotson (Western Carolina) and Cameron Jackson (Wofford).
