Barney the Dinosaur is getting his very own live-action movie, because why not?

The big purple tyrannosaurus rex is the latest Mattel property to be given the big screen treatment, with the toy company also working on a Hot Wheels film and the Margot Robbie-led Barbie movie.

Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya is on board to produce the Barney movie, and the actor says he wants to being the old dinosaur out of "the shadows".

"Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood,” Kaluuya told The Hollywood Reporter . “We're excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of 'I love you, you love me' can stand the test of time."

Mattel Films executive producer Robbie Brenner added: "Working with Daniel Kaluuya will enable us to take a completely new approach to Barney that will surprise audiences and subvert expectations.

"The project will speak to the nostalgia of the brand in a way that will resonate with adults, while entertaining today’s kids.”

“Barney is a dinosaur from our imagination, and we can’t wait to get ‘I love you, you love me’ stuck in heads everywhere, yet again,” said David Carrico of Valparaiso Pictures, another production company attached to the project.

Well, this sounds excellent!
