The winter months are ahead of us and pests are looking for a way to escape the cold, and they may be trying to find a way into your house.

While it may not seem like there are many pests around during the winter time, that’s actually not the case. According to pest control specialist, the winter months are the best time to treat your home. Bugs have moved in and while you may not be able to see them, they are still there. The longer you wait, the more of a problem you’ll have when spring rolls around.

“During the winter time when you do get insects in  your home, take care of them immediately because insects are real sluggish during the winter they’re so much easier to take care of, during the summer when you have ants crawling across the cabinets and across your floors and you’ve got termites flying in your house well it becomes a real hard problem for us as a pest control company to get this under control,” Owner of Metrick Pest Control, Mike Metrick, said.

Good tips for homeowners to keep pests away are to keep your grass mowed, don’t leave food out and if you see spider webs starting to develop wipe them down. You also want to keep away from surrounding your house with mulch beds and look for alternatives like rubber mulch or rocks. Lower voltage lights on your porch can also help discourage bugs from getting near your home.
