Jeep Cherokee Dashboard Symbols

The 2018 Jeep Cherokee is a compact SUV that’s ready for adventures around Chicago, Skokie, Park Ridge, and Forest Park. So much so, that you won’t want to stop driving, even if you see a random light appear on the dashboard. However, these lights have a purpose, and could mean something as simple as a system functioning normally, or a bigger issue with your Cherokee’s performance.

Jeep Cherokee Dashboard SymbolsIn this Jeep Cherokee dashboard symbols guide, our team at Marino Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram will explain what indicator and warning lights are, and will give some examples of ones to keep an eye on. If you ever have any questions or are unsure if your vehicle requires maintenance, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Indicator Lights

Indicator lights in the Jeep Cherokee can be yellow, green, white, or blue, and simply show when a certain feature is being used. However, if a light won’t turn on or off when it’s supposed to, then it’ll need to be brought into a reliable Jeep service center as soon as possible.

The following are a few of the indicator lights that are in a Cherokee…

  • High Beam Indicator Light: This light looks like a capital D with several short horizontal lines to the left of it. It simply means that your high beams are on.
  • Cruise Control Ready Indicator Light: This light looks like a speedometer and will come on when the speed control has been turned on, but not set.
  • ECO Mode Indicator Light: When you see “eco” with a little symbol above it, then you know that ECO mode is active.
  • LaneSense Indicator Light (if equipped): This indicator light will appear as a car diagonally across lane markings.
    • If both lane markings have been detected and the system is “armed” and ready to provide visual and torque alerts, then the light will be a solid green.
    • If the system is on, but not armed (when no lane lines have been detected), then the light will be a solid white.
  • Stop/Start Active Indicator Light (if equipped): When an “A” inside an open circle appears on the vehicle’s dashboard, then the Stop/Start function is in “Autostop” mode.

Warning Lights

When a red or yellow warning light appears on your vehicle’s dash, it means there’s a possible malfunction with one of the systems. If a light comes on and stays on, then you’ll need to get your Cherokee looked at as soon as you can. The longer you put off fixing the issue, the less safe it is to drive, and there’s a greater potential for your car to break down.

Some of the warning lights in the Jeep Cherokee are…

  • Jeep Cherokee Dashboard SymbolsAir Bag Warning Light: This light looks a person in the sitting position with a big circle in its lap. When you turn the car on, the light will come on for four to eight seconds. However, if it the light stays on after that and you hear a single chime, it means there’s a fault with the airbag system.
  • Oil Temperature Warning Light: What looks like a thermometer inside an oil can indicate that the temperature of the engine oil is too high. If this light comes on when driving, pull over when it’s safe to do so and turn the engine off. Then, wait for the oil temperature to return to a normal level.
  • Jeep Cherokee Dashboard SymbolsTire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Warning Light: When you see an exclamation point inside an open circle, it means the pressure in one or more of your tires is lower than normal. If the light stays on after filling your tires with air, then there’s either an issue with one of your tires (like a puncture wound) or with the TPMS itself.
  • Door Open Warning Light: This light appears as a car with all the doors open. If you’re driving and one of your doors isn’t fully closed, the light will come on and you’ll hear a single chime. The light should turn off once all the doors get completely shut.
